The room was spacious and well-appointed, the pool area beautiful, and the breakfast pleasantly Italian in character. Hotel Excelsior Palace has genuine charm and a history you can feel on arrival. Still, the reputation promised more than the stay delivered. The walls are thin enough that you hear your neighbors' conversations. Breakfast felt incomplete for a four-star property, and an omelette costs extra, which surprised me. The bar was a particular disappointment: staff were inflexible about both tea selection and cocktail preparation, insisting on a house recipe that frankly didn't hold up. A Negroni with lemon is a choice, and not one I'd recommend. Outside visitors came to the pool just to film and briefly disrupted it, which seems like a management issue to address. It was a decent stay, but the hotel felt like it stopped evolving somewhere in its past, and not in an intentionally nostalgic way. Worth visiting, but temper your expectations.

The rooms are big, with a nice pool, lovely terrace, and beautiful views. The staff were very friendly too. The location is perfect, just outside the old city gates, so you can walk to anywhere in town while staying away from the crowds and noise.

The views were unbelievable, with the sea and Mt. Etna visible from my balcony. Parking in Taormina can be tricky, but this hotel is at one end of town and has reasonably priced valet service. The staff were wonderful, rooms spacious and very clean, and breakfast delicious. The location couldn't be better. So happy we stayed here, and I'd stay again!

We only ate at the restaurant. The view is Nice, but the kitchen is really badly organized. We waited an hour for two bruschettas and a plate of cheese. Come on, a palace can do better than that, or at least tell us it will take some time.

The hotel is stunning, with an old Italy meets new feel, so don't let the dated pictures put you off. Its location couldn't be more perfect: right at the end of the main walk to the bars, restaurants, and shops. The walk to the cable cars to be beach is 15 mins too. The views are beyond beautiful as soon as you arrive, and then you reach the pool and, WOW, it's breathtaking. The pool bar staff are wonderful, friendly, helpful, and always smiling, as are the breakfast staff. Breakfast had a great selection, and I loved the old fashioned manual orange juicer machine. The rooms felt old fashioned but were very spacious, cleaned daily, and had everything you could need. This place totally exceeded our expectations. We'd most definitely stay here again and recommend it to any couples or solo travellers looking for a gorgeous break away.
