Hotel Mediterranee

For the price, it's awesome value. The rooms are simple, but the views are exceptional, and everyone gets a great one at breakfast on the patio. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the pool was a perfect break from the crowds. The hotel also has parking and easy access to Taormina's main shopping street. Highly recommend!

Nice views, and that's about the only positive. Staff were the rudest and most hostile people I've had the misfortune to meet. The hotel is dated and falling apart, with little to no service, and staff get angry when you raise an issue. You're paying five-star prices for the view and getting a cheap motel experience. Disgraceful.

Some staff were lovely, and our family had fun at the pool, which is why I'm giving two stars instead of one. I felt for the staff: they seemed to be trying their best while under pressure from an older man who kept watching them closely and correcting their service in front of guests. It made them doubt themselves and created a very uncomfortable atmosphere. Even so, the hotel fell short on basic cleanliness, service, and hospitality. I wouldn't return or recommend it. The room was not cleaned properly on two of our three nights: it was skipped entirely one day, and the next only the bathroom was done, with the bed left unmade. The shower head broke and hit me on the head while I was showering, and water leaked through the roof between the bedroom and bathroom into the room. The bathroom faucets barely worked, the drains smelled awful, and the shower drain was so blocked we stood in ankle-deep water. The carpet looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in years. At breakfast, hot coffee accidentally burned my young son. No staff came to help; another guest brought us cold water from their table. When we asked staff for something cold, they didn't respond urgently. The older man, who seemed to be the owner or manager, focused more on cleaning coffee off the tiles than checking on our distressed child. We were also charged €20 per night for a baby cot without being told beforehand. The hotel is run-down and badly needs maintenance.

The hillside pool was a delight, and the views were the highlight, with the service close behind. Make sure to book a sea-view room, it's completely worth it. We loved our stay. Some people mention the older-style decor, but updating it could take away from the hotel's charm.
