Villa Angela

We first stayed at Hotel Villa Angela in 2007, then came back in 2008 and 2009, and again in 2024. Our fifth visit is coming up soon, in 2026. It’s become our favourite holiday destination anywhere in the world. The Leonardo da Vinci Suite is still our absolute favourite, and we always look forward to staying there again. Everything about Villa Angela feels special, from the warm staff and beautiful decor to the atmosphere, the views across Taormina and Mount Etna, and the stunning suites. There’s something genuine and relaxing about the place that keeps drawing us back. It feels familiar and special to us now, less like a hotel. Already looking forward to coming back again. Two different people recommended Villa Angela to us, and they were right. The new apartments are quiet and so well appointed. The shuttle bus makes getting around easy and adds to the holiday. The staff are attentive, from the barman looking after your glass to the restaurant team. Everyone had a quiet smile and seemed confident. The light breakfast choices were nice, and we had a tasty revelation with the octopus bowl! Lovely local wines and delicious local meals, all made with care and attention. This is a new favourite place for us.

The setting high above town is beautiful, and the views are stunning. Our room was very clean, and breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The breakfast staff were friendly and helpful, especially the gentleman from Scotland. We stayed two nights in early March 2026. We rarely write average or bad reviews, but a few things could have been better. We emailed the hotel a question the day before arriving and got no response. They later told us they’d accidentally deleted it. The man who checked us in was rather perfunctory and could have been friendlier and more welcoming. There was no welcome drink, which is a nice touch and typical for a four-star place. Our room didn’t have a smart TV, and some channels listed in the room guide, including BBC, weren’t available. There was no complimentary water, either, though usually there are a couple in the room. The driver was impatient with us after a simple request and wasn’t friendly. Management said it was a language barrier, but it wasn’t, it was poor customer service. All in all, we had a pleasant stay, but the customer service and small touches that could make it special were lacking.

May was a wonderful time to visit, with wildflowers in bloom. Hiking the trails around Taormina brought back lots of memories and had me thinking of the Tennyson poem, "if i had a flower for everytime i thought of you...i could walk through my garden forever". Staying up high in Taormina worked out great for our walks. We had a beautiful stay at villa angela, with lovely staff, beautiful artwork inside the hotel and great views of mama etna.
