Villa Sirami

The pool felt too small for the number of guests, and our room was tiny with very few amenities. We only saw anyone briefly at check-in, then not again until breakfast. Breakfast was cut short for me when the host put a plate of ham near our table to try to get rid of wasps, which just attracted a lot more of them. The place was expensive, even during Covid, when things like car hire were cheaper elsewhere on the island.

The place is spread over several levels and has a lift, though it doesn't go all the way to the upper floors. We had a car, so being able to use the garage was great. There are several pizzerias in the nearby historic center. Up on the hill, the views are breathtaking, over Taormina and all the way to Reggio on mainland Italy in the distance.

The view was beautiful, and I'd come back if I visit the city again. Staff were friendly and flexible, and although their English wasn't very strong, they tried to answer everything and knew a lot about local attractions. We arrived well before check-in, and they didn't make an issue of it. The bus station is only a two-minute walk away, which was very convenient. The rooms were clean and equipped. My only small gripes: the bathroom water wasn't really hot, and despite the big TVs with cable, there were no English channels.

The staff were professional and courteous, and there are parking spaces onsite. They were fine, though we've met better on this wonderful island of Sicily and may have been spoiled. The location is great, just a short walk from town.
