Hotel Plaza

We didn't stay here. My mother has a disabled pass, and I politely asked the receptionist if she could use the toilet. The man at the desk sent us away. After that, I wouldn't stay at this hotel.

The trouble started as our group of about 20 arrived to check in around 7pm: the power went out. The receptionist didn't seem surprised, then warned us the elevator might fail and said we could use it at our own risk. Some rooms were on the fifth floor, and we had elderly people and small children with us. We were told to carry our own suitcases upstairs. No one offered help, apologized, or provided service or compensation. It was the worst customer experience I've had. Later that night, some keys opened rooms that were already occupied, and some guests didn't get a room until 10pm. Other rooms had no water or working air conditioning all night, while the power kept cutting in and out for everyone. Breakfast was awful too, with little food and everything wrapped in plastic. The staff came across as apathetic and rude, with no service at all, even for a three-star hotel. Please avoid the hassle. Tour groups especially should stay away, even if the location is good or the price saves money. It isn't worth it.

Our room was spacious, and the hotel itself is nicely fitted out. But the air conditioning didn't work in summer. We complained several times, including in writing through Booking.com, and got no response. Breakfast was very poor, probably the worst we've had in Italy, though it was nice to have a barista. The location is the real highlight: across from the square, near good restaurants, and between the shopping area and old city. If the air conditioning had worked and breakfast had been adequate, the stay would have been great.

The receptionist was the worst part. I walked into the lobby with ice cream in a cup and got yelled at from across the desk: “Hey, you can’t bring ice cream into this hotel!” I said I was a guest and had paid to stay for a few nights. They told me I couldn't come in and should eat it outside. Seriously inappropriate behavior. Maybe the staff never went to hotelier school. The hotel is old and has no charm. Old buildings can be fine if maintained, but the air conditioning is bad and breakfast is poor. I can't think of a single good point here.
