Hotel de Paris

The outside looks rather dour, but don’t let that put you off. This old hotel, more 1960s than vintage, has a certain charm and makes for a pleasant stay. The people are especially warm and kind hearted. It’s clean, the Wi-Fi works quite well, and the air conditioning is good. Great pillows too, which are often overlooked. The four-star rating for such an old place does seem strange, though.

The service is good, the price is fairly cheap, and everyone was friendly and helpful. The hotel was very clean, and I feel the staff really tries their best with what they have. But the building and furniture are well past their prime and look tacky. The walls are paper thin, so you hear everyone outside your room, and breakfast could be better. Even so, I’d stay again. With some investment in the property, this could easily become a 4*.

The room feels comfortable, and I really liked the colours of the furniture and wallpaper. The hotel has a very elegant, classy look. There’s everything you need in the bathroom, though the space is a little tight. Breakfast is included and there’s plenty of it.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean. The hotel itself is fine, though a bit dated. The real issue for me was how much noise carried between rooms. After midnight I could hear the TV next door and a man having long phone calls, so it took ages to fall asleep. In the morning I heard several alarms from nearby rooms, then the TV and calls started up again. There were also strange sounds that seemed to come from the bathroom, perhaps the pipes, though I’m not sure. You can hear just about everything through the walls, so bring earplugs in case.
