Hotel Ristorante Miralago

I really enjoyed the meat dishes, and the portions were generous. The cooking was good, with some more carefully prepared dishes, and there’s a solid wine list focused especially on local Umbrian wines. The wait after ordering can be a bit long, though that may suit people who like a leisurely meal with time between courses. The setting by the lake is lovely, especially in the warmer months when you can eat outside and admire the view. There’s also a nice dining room facing the lake for other seasons. If you come at the right time, you might see the rowing team training. My one disappointment is that a restaurant right on the lake offers a seafood menu instead of a lake-fish menu. Give that a try, guys, and put together a full lake menu! It was a beautiful experience, and I’ll return. They also have rooms, for anyone interested.

The food was a lovely surprise: there were fish, meat, and vegetarian choices, with generous portions and cooking that was both high quality and well done. Breakfast was rich and varied too. We stayed one Sunday in late October, using Miralago Hotel as a base for Marmore Falls. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, though not brand new. We’ll definitely come back. We felt looked after from beginning to end, thanks to the staff, who were welcoming, very kind, and always smiling. The restaurant was a real find. Its spectacular view over Lake Piediluco made for a magical, relaxing atmosphere. The food was delicious, with generous portions, quality ingredients, authentic flavors, and dishes prepared with real care. A fantastic experience, and absolutely somewhere I’d recommend and want to revisit. If you’re passing through Piediluco, you have to stop here!

If you want an evening of regret and a workout for your jaw, Miralago might be the place. The meat had the texture of an old shoe sole, and every bite was a struggle. The vegetables and fries were all charred, as if they’d been cooked right up to or past burning. The dining room felt like a dull, cold, depressing bunker from a 1970s James Bond movie, where the villain keeps you locked up. For a country known for food, I can’t understand how it can be made so badly here, when even grandmothers can supposedly cook a six-course meal worthy of Michelin stars with their eyes closed. The hotel’s Miralago restaurant is quite a study in how an Italian can make bad food in the world’s culinary Mecca. Bravo 🫣 Want to be heard and take a crash course in making food unappealing? Try it. Seriously, walk 200 meters farther to the pizzerias or ristorantes and save yourself the evening.
