B&B Hotel California

There could be a lot to like here, especially with the property near the edge of the historic center, but it badly needs upkeep. The rooms and outside areas were dirty and untidy. The garden shown in the photos wasn't usable at all, with cat beds, dying plants, and grime. I was shocked to see room laundry drying between a cat and a branch that looked ready to fall. Guests should be told ahead of time about the many cats in the area, especially to avoid allergic reactions. The spiral stairs up to the rooms are steep, too. Breakfast was set out in baskets for each room, with snacks and fruit juice on a round table in the kitchen entrance, a passage everyone uses to get to their room. There were no hot drinks; the instant coffee had been made in advance and left on the table. The place has potential, but needs some maintenance, and the woman isn't open to advice.

The room was uncomfortable in a couple of ways: the double bed was made of two separate mattresses, and it got very hot overnight even though the air conditioning was on. The lock was awkward too, with the key seeming to turn freely and sometimes taking several minutes to open the door. Breakfast was only packaged snacks and juice in baskets for each room, with no fresh food or hot drinks made there, not even coffee or hot milk. I stayed one night this time, after having been here once before with my father in 2023. I hadn't remembered that first visit when I booked again in Terracina. The area is quiet and pleasant, and the B&B is a few minutes by car from the center or around 15-20 minutes on foot. Check-in was around 7:30 PM. They'd called me that afternoon, but I couldn't answer. At about 5:30 PM I sent a WhatsApp message, I think to the lady's husband, saying we'd arrive around 7:30. I got no reply, so I called the same number when we arrived. I was told the lady was out walking her dog and that he would contact her. Someone called me back shortly after, in a tone I found rather cold. I said we didn't mind waiting and would be patient. When the lady arrived, she kept saying we should have let her know. She was nervous, and even after I showed her the message I'd sent well in advance, she was still arrogant.

The rooms are spacious and have all the comforts. The place feels welcoming and relaxed, and the owner is kind and helpful. I'd definitely recommend it.

We came back to this B&B this year after staying here last year, because we enjoyed it so much. The room has all the comforts and was cleaned daily. The one drawback was the bed, which I found a bit uncomfortable and think should be replaced. Breakfast was plentiful and really delicious. The owner was very kind and fun to talk to. We also had an assigned parking space. I definitely recommend this B&B.
