Hotel Panorama

The view is lovely, but the cafe was no use to us. They had no alternative milk, and paying by card was made difficult.

The bar has a wonderful view, but I felt unwelcome from the start when I visited with my son two days ago to order tea. The waiter seemed impatient, and after taking our order in English he walked away without a smile. I asked for oat milk instead of regular milk because I’m lactose intolerant. He nodded as if he understood, but after about 10 minutes they brought my tea with cow’s milk. I took it back to the bar and asked the older woman working there that evening if she could change it to oat milk. She reacted angrily, slammed a bottle down on the table with a loud bang, and muttered in German with a very unfriendly expression. I’m Chinese/English, and I couldn’t help wondering whether she was treating me this way because of that. What else would explain such an extreme reaction? I was shocked. When I complained about her attitude to the hotel manager, he agreed she had treated me badly but then tried to defend her. He offered to cover the cost of our drinks, which felt like an attempt to buy our silence. I refused and paid for them. The hostility and poor hospitality were deeply disappointing. I can’t be sure, but I wonder if I’d have been treated this way had I been German-speaking or European/white. As an Asian woman travelling in Europe, I know racism hasn’t disappeared. I only asked them to correct their mistake with the tea, and felt punished for it. I’ve visited Italy many times and never had service this bad.

The terrace view is stunning, but we never got served. It took 20 minutes just to receive the menu, then another 30 minutes passed with nothing. We left. There weren’t many tables, and there were two waitresses and one waiter, so the wait was hard to understand.

After a long hike, I stopped in for a beer. It was nice, and the view is great.
