Feudo Antico

The people were friendly and knew their stuff. We had a very good tasting of Tullum wines with a delicious plate of homemade bread, cheese, and sausage. The view of the sea and vineyards is lovely. It’s an amazing winery built on old Roman ruins, some of which you can visit, and they also show you the cellar.

I love the history, the location, and the amazing wines here. Such a hidden gem, and a must-visit if you’re in the Abruzzo region.

A wonderful place to get a real sense of the passion for wine, alongside such a rich historical background. Absolutely remarkable!

With the Italian Travel Team, I had an incredible day at Feudo Antico in Tollo, the City of Wine. We left the Teramo hills behind and headed toward the sea, where the sea breeze meets winds from the Majella. The atmosphere was something special. Sandro welcomed us warmly and took us back in time. Underfoot are the remains of a Roman rural villa from the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, including ancient cisterns. It’s amazing to think the Romans made wine right here two thousand years ago, and that we do the same today. The archeo-enological project gave me chills. We tasted high-quality wines closely tied to the Pecorino grape and the local Tullum, an excellent DOP. The tasting came with local cheeses, authentic cured meats, and warm homemade focaccia with a drizzle of oil that brought out every sip. Simple, but a perfect pairing. Looking out at the rows of vines, the sea in the distance, and Roman history coming back out of the ground, you’re not just drinking good wine, you’re breathing in our culture. It was fascinating to learn that the ancient Roman cisterns inspired their modern aging methods in concrete wine vessels. A remarkable day that I’d recommend to everyone.
