A gorgeous spot in the heart of Cilento, with a warm, family-style welcome. There’s a pool and barbecue too, just ask. You can go without a second thought.

The grounds were a mess, though they’re meant to be a campsite, and the dog wasn’t under control. The atmosphere felt strange. Unfortunately, not a good experience.

The meals were simple and very well prepared by the lovely owner, who runs the place with her two especially welcoming daughters. I ate and slept well, and went on a different excursion each day during my week there. The house is modest, clean, and very spacious, and it stayed surprisingly cool for August 2022. Even though it’s deep in the woods, I didn’t see a single insect, mosquito, or fly. The property sits inside a WWF oasis, with the Bussento Caves in the Cilento National Park reserve. It’s at most a 20-minute drive from Sapri, and the fresh air makes the trip worthwhile compared with the coast. I brought my two dogs, who were made very welcome. For once, I even felt comfortable going to a restaurant without putting them on a leash. Great for anyone who likes nature and simple things, and the high-season price was very competitive.

We were the only table there, and the whole evening was one to forget. They had no sparkling water, so they served us tap water in a jug and charged for it. Both the red and white wine had turned to vinegar. We ordered five platters out of courtesy, but the cured meats were poor quality. The bathroom and the rest of the building were dilapidated. The bill came to €70 with The Fork. A very negative experience, and The Fork should check the places it sponsors.
