Hotel Regina Del Garda Suite

The junior suite we stayed in was recently renovated, clean, and comfortable, and although it was a bit pricey, it felt like good value. The hotel is nicely placed on the Garda lakefront, close to plenty of amenities, and seems to suit a range of budgets. Breakfast was unfortunately poor in quality and lacked variety. The eggs and coffee in particular fell below a reasonable standard. The coffee machine was broken for all five days of our stay, so we had to use an older one that made pretty bad coffee. The waiter handling breakfast was also rude and had a bad attitude, acting bothered by having to do anything or answer questions.

After two miserable nights, we checked out and found somewhere else because this wasn’t how we wanted to spend our holiday. The first room wasn’t the one we’d booked or seen online; it was in a building in the middle of the campsite, which hadn’t been mentioned. It was uncomfortable, and a fold-down bed above the third bed made that one unusable. My friend hit her head badly after just half an hour, so the three of us squeezed into the double bed. The air conditioning was so loud it felt like sleeping beside a train station. We contacted booking.com and were moved, but the next room was just as bad, maybe worse. It smelled awful, and we soon found mold throughout. Some of it had clearly been painted over. I have no words. Breakfast was barely acceptable. The fruit was left whole, the juice tasted like sugar, and the scrambled eggs looked like they came from a carton. Birds were picking at and eating the eggs too, which was very unsanitary. Service was okay apart from the receptionists, who weren’t helpful and rarely even welcomed us. This hotel doesn’t deserve four stars. We later stayed at a much better three-star hotel. Someone explain that logic to me?

The restaurant service was slow, and the grounds felt less spacious than the description suggested, though the hotel is close to the lake. We had no trouble parking, but the lot was always full. On the plus side, the modern room was very clean, the bed was really comfortable, the pool was nice, and breakfast had plenty of choice.

The food and staff were fantastic, and the rooms, pool, and location were all amazing. A fabulous hotel.
