B&B Germinario

The location makes it easy to reach the cathedral or harbor in just a few minutes on foot, and the building has real historical character. It has been restored over time, with new double-glazed windows that keep the room quiet at night when closed, even though it's near a busy square in the heart of historic Trani. There's also a little balcony looking onto the square and old church. We've stayed at B&B Germinario several times over the past few years whenever we visit beautiful Trani, including this October, and it's always been a pleasant stay. The owner is warm and friendly, welcomes guests in person, and is around in the mornings and from late afternoon into early evening. I really appreciate that, especially these days when travel can mean key boxes and impersonal instructions. The rooms are comfortable and perfectly clean. A small kitchen corner is handy for the occasional meal, though Trani has loads of places to eat, from pricey restaurants to takeaway. Breakfast is included at a nearby bar and cake shop that bakes on-site: a hot drink and an enormous croissant, and a lovely way to start the day. Excellent value. The only hard part is leaving.

Our studio was charming and very clean, with a little balcony. The old town is nearby, and you can get everywhere on foot, with shops and restaurants close too. There is some city noise, but that's normal. Paid parking is about 500 m away.

The rooms are spacious and the views are lovely, with a very central location. We got a warm welcome and had everything we needed. I'd happily stay again.

We phoned to book one night and were told the high-season room price was 70 euros. When we arrived, I checked the B&B website: it listed 55 euros for two people, plus 15 euros per room for the period from July 16 to July 31 August. That comes to 70 euros, so I asked why we were being charged 90. The owner said rooms cost more at that time. When I pointed out the extra 15 euros already brought it to 70, he said there were no other rooms available then and that places we might find could cost up to 180 euros. That wasn't the point for me. The published rates are the rates, and taking advantage of the situation to charge whatever you want doesn't seem honest. The room faced a square and was so noisy that we couldn't sleep. The building is old, and the smell from the pipes was quite strong.
