Baglio Sorìa Resort & Wine Experience

Yesterday we had lunch and a wine tasting for two, and we're still impressed by how beautiful and well organized it was. Giuseppe welcomed us warmly, then gave a detailed, interesting introduction to the soils, wine regions and winery. His knowledge and enthusiasm really came through. Lunch was delicious, classic Italian food, freshly made and a good-sized serving. We had the whole tasting and meal to ourselves, which made it feel personal. We felt looked after and appreciated. Everything was professional and thoughtfully arranged. Highly recommend it!

The Sicilian setting and hospitality feel genuine, and the hotel is beautifully designed and elegantly decorated in lovely countryside. The views are stunning, and while interesting places aren't right next door, the drives are manageable and enjoyable. Rooms are clean, bright, spacious and well equipped. The pool is large and nicely designed, the breakfast buffet has a good range of quality food, and staff are consistently professional, courteous and helpful. The bed was a real letdown for a hotel of this quality. Its frame wobbled and creaked with the slightest movement, and the mattress was poor. Bathroom lighting was too dim for shaving or makeup. The restaurant disappointed too. The menu sounds appealing, but portions were tiny. Other guests had mentioned examples like fish soup with just a couple small pieces in the broth, or very dry duck breast. Radio music at dinner also felt out of place.

This small resort had so much heart and gave us some of the best hospitality and professionalism we've experienced. It was one of the best places we've stayed anywhere, and our favorite during three weeks in Italy. We wish we'd booked a longer stay. The seafood and pasta were delicious, both from the à la carte and chef's tasting menus. Staff were responsive and attentive. They brought snacks for us to enjoy with wine on the terrace and went the extra mile for our very early checkout. The wine tasting was informative and included a bit of the estate's local history. Giuseppe, I believe that was his name, led our tasting and hosted us at dinner. He was devoted to his craft, remembered what we'd asked for while looking after other guests, and guided us through the wines. He was there until at least midnight when dinner ended, then we saw him again at breakfast the next morning. Watching him make beef tartare for us was almost a mindfulness exercise. Thank you to the baglio. This place deserves at least five stars!

A lovely stay all around. The room was clean, huge and well equipped, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed the pool, a good breakfast, and excellent food and wine. It's in the middle of nowhere, but still convenient for getting everywhere.
