Hotel Rusall

We walked down to town and found it easy to reach the ferry, though the uphill walk back takes some effort. We didn’t need to drive during our three nights at Hotel Rusall, and appreciated the safe, covered parking for our car. The rooms and hotel were clean and cozy, the staff were all so kind, and the food was delicious. We ate at the restaurant every evening, and the prices for that quality were unbeatable. There’s really no need to eat elsewhere in town if you stay here. Our balcony view was stunning. We highly recommend Hotel Rusall for a Lake Como stay, though the uphill walk may not suit everyone.

The ferry terminal is only a few minutes away by car, which made it easy to cross the lake and visit the villages on the other side. We also loved relaxing on the terrace, with Bellagio visible across the stunning Lake Como panorama. The food was a highlight: every meal was delicious, varied, beautifully presented, and full of rich flavors. The staff welcomed us warmly from the moment we arrived and were kind and attentive throughout. It’s a lovely hotel with a welcoming atmosphere and wonderful cuisine. We left with great memories and would love to return.

The rooms are dated, but very clean, and the view and location are charming enough to make the place worth visiting. For €225 a night, though, I expected more from the very basic home-cooked dinner: a good salad buffet with fresh ingredients, a simple pasta for the first course, and just one second course. That won’t suit picky eaters or guests with dietary needs. The staff were the most disappointing part. The gentleman was somewhat kind, but the woman at reception and dinner seemed extremely demotivated and distant, and at one point was rude. She wouldn’t greet us or say goodbye, and didn’t explain simple questions about our half-board booking properly. I speak Italian, so language wasn’t a barrier. We never felt welcome, more like she was doing us a favor. Such a pity in such a beautiful place.

Sunset aperitivo on their lovely terrace overlooking the lake and mountains was pure heaven. We only stopped for drinks, but the staff were so kind and helpful. I left my sunglasses behind and they kept them for me, which gave us a reason to come back for another cocktail hour. I’d definitely stay at the hotel if I had a car or Vespa. Maybe next time!
