I saw a one-star review for this place and was shocked. We stayed for one night last week and couldn’t have been happier. The owners were friendly and helpful, and the property is beautiful and feels safe. Breakfast was great too. We drove into Trento to eat, and it’s a beautiful old city. We only had one night on our trip, but I’d very happily stay here again. I wouldn’t let that one-star review put you off.

The location is the real draw, tucked into the mountains and suited to both people looking for outdoor adventures and anyone after a quiet escape. Argitur Ponte Alto made for a memorable stay, with warm hospitality and a setting that’s hard to beat. The staff stood out: they were professional, genuinely nice, always greeted us with a smile, and were eager to help with questions or requests. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. They’re decent and have the essentials, and some have lovely views of the nearby mountains. The rooms could use some updating, though. A little more modern style would improve them. That’s a small issue, but it’s why I’m giving four stars instead of five. A good choice for a mountain retreat.

*Dog owners, read this.* We booked four nights but left early because their dog policy felt questionable and subjective, and seemed to change arbitrarily depending on how busy they were. The place is run by a family living in the adjoining house. The views are nice, and breakfast pastries are homemade. We called ahead to confirm they were dog-friendly, but found that seemed to depend on how many other guests had booked. Our extremely well-behaved senior golden retriever was fine for the first couple of nights, when there were hardly any other guests. On the third day, we were suddenly told we couldn’t bring him into the breakfast room because other guests were there. Although we felt disrespected, we asked whether we could come back in an hour, at 9am, when we’d be alone. They said no, explaining they were closing breakfast early at 9 because they were busy planning lunch. They kindly offered to seat us outside, in the cold, at tables still wet from the rain. Our dog is calm and clean, never barks, and always lies next to us, so he wasn’t causing any problems. We went back to our room because we didn’t feel we were being treated as paying customers, but as if we were asking for charity. No one came to apologize. We decided to end the stay early and take our business somewhere we’d be treated like paying customers.

The breakfast was a real highlight, served in a shared hall with plenty of homemade cakes and local treats like berries, honey, and ham. We stayed two nights in a cozy, comfortable apartment with a double bed, a fold-out sofa bed, a small kitchen, and a bathroom. It’s in a quiet neighborhood with lots of parking, and it’s easy to get to central Trento, Valsugana, and the highway to Bolzano.
