There was only one outlet in the room for the three of us, so keeping everyone’s phones charged was a hassle. The hairdryer didn’t work, the oddly angled toilet wouldn’t open all the way and fell onto whoever was using it, and the heat was unbearable with no air conditioning or other way to cool the room. We also found spiders behind the door and in the shower. Breakfast was awful, with solid cappuccino and butter melted in its container. We’d left the keys at reception expecting to get them back when we returned. Instead, we and several other guests spent a couple of hours waiting in the parking lot because the door was locked. We only got back inside when another person came out. The room itself was inadequate, and the whole hotel felt horrible, perhaps because of the suburban neighborhood. We’d booked at short notice, but that didn’t excuse the excessive price for this level of service. We’d agreed to check in at 9:00 AM for 5:00 PM, yet the room wasn’t ready until 5:45 PM. The price might not be first class, but the service was far worse.

It might do for a single night, but I wouldn’t want to stay longer. The room was clean, though the carpet was old, the bedding worn, and there was a smell of smoke. The TV was a cathode ray tube set, the sink in the room was unplugged, and the radiators were peeling. On a Sunday morning in mid-December, breakfast was just supermarket pastries. At €70 a night, honestly, that’s a disgrace. The hotel is old and up for sale, probably because of its condition.

We’d booked three weeks earlier and had confirmation from Booking.com, but when my husband and I arrived, the owner said there was no room for us. I was four months pregnant, and we were left at the last minute without anywhere to stay away from home, with our six-year-old child. It put us in an unacceptable situation.

It’s out on the edge of town, but getting around by public transport with my family was no problem. The place was clean, and the owner was really friendly. The hotel could use renovation and modernization, and there was just one available power outlet in the room.

The owner was friendly, but the room lighting wouldn’t turn on and only one power outlet worked. Luckily we’d brought a power strip for charging our phones and cameras. Room service also didn’t leave soap or shower gel sachets.
