Residence Hotel Candriai Alla Posta

Candriai is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. There’s this hotel and a summer camp right next door, where I was working for a month. If you like woods, nature, snakes (I saw two vipers), bugs, grazing cattle, and beautiful mountains, you’ll be right at home. It’s the town’s main hangout, and there isn’t much else up there. Check the bus schedules so you don’t get stranded, unless you have a car, in which case you’re set. The hotel itself was a beautiful, pleasant, comfortable place to stay. My room was fabulous, with a living room, kitchen, bedroom, clean bathroom, TV, lots of light, and a cozy feel. It was arranged for longer stays, with a stove, oven, and kitchenware, but still kept like a hotel room. There was a small balcony, though only one person could squeeze out onto it, a lovely view of the big park across the street, and beautiful lighting. The main bedroom felt like a suite even though it was a standard room. The bathroom was small but had what you’d need for a night or two. There were a few little things I didn’t love. You had to clean up after using the dishes or risk a fee, but there was no dish soap. There was only one tiny bar of soap, and I could have used another towel. Apart from that, I had no complaints about the room. The staff spoke English and were friendly enough, though the woman could be a bit arrogant at times. I stayed in June 2012 and had a really enjoyable time. I talked the manager down to €70 a night, without breakfast. Online, the rate was €100, and her original quote in person was €90. I imagine breakfast wasn’t much, maybe coffee and a roll. There’s a bar downstairs and a pizzeria, which is where they make their business. The pizza was some of the best in Italy, a must try! They also sell Trentino strudel (the worst in the world, definitely not worth €3 a slice!), different beers, coffee, ice cream bars, and the odd book about the region if you can’t find one elsewhere. It’s one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at, and I’ve decided I want to move in!
