We got very good value for money, and the Leccio apartment had plenty of space for the nine of us. It was sparsely furnished, though: there was nowhere to put things in the bathroom, and the kitchen had only a microwave, without utensils to use in it. A dishwasher and oven would be useful too. The girls slept on the sofa bed, and I had to put sheets on it.

The peaceful setting, lovely location, and splendid view were real highlights. The apartment itself is large and rustic, but the website photos make it look more updated than it is, especially the furniture and mattresses. There’s no air conditioning or mosquito netting, which would have been welcome with all the flies, wasps, and mosquitoes in the area.

The apartment makes a good base for exploring Val d'Orcia, and the valley views are beautiful. We could see vineyards and cattle grazing, along with bee-eaters, jays, swallows, and goldfinches. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and it’s very quiet. Getting there means taking a short dirt road. There’s a stovetop, microwave, and refrigerator, but breakfast isn’t included. There’s no air conditioning, though that only becomes an issue during severe heatwaves.

A peaceful spot in the hills, with a calm, serene feel. It’s also well placed for getting to towns across lower Tuscany, Umbria, and upper Lazio.
