We first found IL Conte Matto about 15 years ago and have come back several times. It’s tucked into a tiny hilltop town in the middle of nowhere, so getting there is a drive, but it’s worth leaving civilization for, lol. The food is traditional Tuscan. We tried pasta with Truffles, Ribolitta, Wild Boar stew, Rack of Lamb, and Tiramisu. The stew, in its cocoa-based sauce, was delicious and really interesting. The Ribolitta was full of fresh vegetables and topped with scallions.

The food is delicious, and the setting is a quiet village far off the beaten path in Tuscany. We found it relaxing to stay upstairs for a night or two, enjoy the menu, and avoid having to drive afterward.

The views are spectacular, and the almond parfait was incredible. Cheese and jam made a delicious starter, and the ravioli was great. The chicken and rabbit were good too, though the chicken was delicious and the rabbit dry. The man gave great service, but the woman seemed pretty sour.
