Borghetto del Mostaccio

The food and wine were very good on most days, but the rooms on our tour weren’t equal even though we all paid the same. Some people got three-room suites or amazing views. Mine was tiny and dark, above the noisy kitchen, with a wall just a couple of meters away. The shower was like a phone booth, and the cupboard smelled of mouse urine. They wouldn’t move me to another room.

Breakfast was plentiful, and dinner in the hotel restaurant was very tasty, though the service could use improvement. The hotel occupies a historic building in the middle of Trevi’s old center. Its classic furniture suits the character of the place, and it has all the comforts you need.

I was booked on a tour package and ended up in an apartment in one of the outbuildings. The kitchen cabinets were empty of cups and other essentials, and there was an old couch in the kitchen among a collection of old items. The whole place smelled musty, like decaying books and furniture. Its AC struggled to keep the temperature below 80, and there were no window screens. At the bathroom entrance, a piece of plywood rocked when you stepped on it. This apartment had none of the old-world charm I expected. You could probably stay elsewhere and get better hospitality for half the price.

The people we met were warm and attentive, and the service was great. We had a wonderful week here, with lovely rooms and a beautiful hotel throughout. We’d very much like to come back. Thanks so much! Ciao da Marta og Tonny from Norway.
