Red Sun Village Hotel

We liked it enough to book extra nights. The hotel was excellent, with modern, very new and clean rooms, and nice food at all three buffet meals. Bottled water, juices, coffee, and even red and white wine were included, and the wine was pretty good quality. The buffet is small for a hotel this size and gets busy, so the staff can struggle to refill dishes quickly. I can see why some reviews mention it, but to me it was a minor point. Everything else was perfect.

The room was quiet and the bed comfortable, and the setting was marvellous. We were there for Red Sun’s opening weekend and had a great experience. Staff were unfailingly polite, friendly, enthusiastic, and focused on making sure we were happy. The entertainments team and restaurant staff were especially splendid. There were two small room problems, but Reception quickly sent someone to fix them. The buffet had fresh food and plenty of choice at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I can heartily recommend it.

We’re leaving Red Sun Village tomorrow, and the pools have been clean and new. The modern, newly furnished rooms have a mini fridge and air conditioning. Reception responds promptly, and the hotel can store luggage for early check-in and help arrange transfers. There’s a little of everything, including music, entertainment, kids’ events, sunbeds by the pool, and nice beaches close by. The food was great, fresh Italian food. The kitchen staff and waitresses were very helpful and spoke enough English to make things easy to understand. Five stars especially to the chef for the food, the barman for the nice cocktails, and the guest relations lady for taking so much time to help us. We also really liked the design and facilities. Definitely recommended. As international visitors, we were a bit apprehensive after seeing a few negative comments, but we didn’t experience any of that. It was really perfect.

Our room was clean, well presented, and serviced throughout the stay, but the resort was not ready to welcome guests properly and should not have been taking bookings. All the hotel swimming pools were broken and unusable for our entire six day visit. We were emailed only three days before arriving, told they would be out of order on 28th and 29th May, with the problem expected to be fixed on the 30th or 31st. It was never fixed. We were offered a Club Card for access to resort leisure facilities if we agreed not to complain about the pool closure. With travel already arranged and few similar alternatives nearby, the short notice left us little choice but to accept. The only Club Card benefit was beach deckchairs, and it looked like all guests got the card anyway, whether they agreed not to complain or not. We expected to use the pool for at least the last two days, and felt misled by the email about the closure period and disappointed by the compensation. The nearest beach, advertised at check-in as belonging to the hotel and within walking distance, was covered in rubbish. That made things worse because it was the alternative to the unusable pool. Secret Escapes advertised the resort as suitable for couples and families, with three bars and three restaurants. Only one restaurant and one bar were open. At check-in we were told there weren’t enough guests at the start of the season to open the others, but that the 'Splash Bar' and 'Wave Bar' would be open. In fact, only the ‘Splash Bar' by the kids pool operated during our stay. The advertised 'Sky Bar' was a major reason we booked, but it also stayed closed because there supposedly weren’t enough guests. The Splash Bar was not a relaxing option for a couple without children, given its location and kids’ parties each night. It seemed nobody had considered that the place was advertised for couples as well as families. The one open restaurant was disappointing at times. Hot dishes weren’t kept warm outside the kitchen and were often cold by the time we served ourselves. Later in our stay more guests arrived, and the restaurant became extremely busy and crowded, with food running out quickly. Since low guest numbers had been the reason for keeping much of the resort closed, it was surprising that more didn’t open when visitor numbers rose. When our travel agent contacted the hotel, they responded with lies, deigning all the points we raised.
