Residenza De Luca

The brother and sister who run this lovely Tropea hotel made us feel welcome right away. I’ve traveled a lot, but haven’t met such genuinely warm and kind hosts before. The atmosphere and service were wonderful, and we’re still talking about the croissants. They were the best we’ve had, even better than the ones I tried in Paris. Our rooms were spotless, tidy, and comfortable, with daily cleaning offered. The location was convenient, about a 15-minute walk to Tropea’s center, with a large supermarket nearby. We were so impressed and grateful for the hospitality, and are already looking forward to coming back. Highly recommended!

Cristina and Tino are wonderful siblings who made us feel cared for throughout our stay in Tropea. The B&B is in a great location, the rooms are clean and well kept, and the outdoor space was a lovely place to unwind after the beach. Breakfast on the veranda was plentiful, and the setting felt truly heavenly. The De Luca residence is a little gem on a coast that really deserves to be called "of the gods." The guesthouse is on a quiet street, and the location worked really well for us. There’s a supermarket right nearby where we could do some great shopping. We were satisfied with our stay.

We came on September 1 after being drawn in by the positive reviews, and the apartment turned out to be truly awful. The place itself looks nice, and the air conditioning worked, but the basics were a mess. The sink wobbled, the greasy hood was dirty and didn’t work, and there was no coffee machine, just a moka pot without coffee. The only salt had no flavor, and the sugar smelled strongly musty. The bedroom door wouldn’t shut, the shower head was clogged and didn’t work, and the soap had run out. The towels and sheets were another issue: Booking.com had already included them in the price, but the owner asked for an extra €30 for two large, two medium, two small towels and a set of sheets. He’d asked the night before what time we’d arrive, and we agreed on 1 to 2 PM. We got there at 1:10 PM, found the apartment locked, and called him. He said he’d come in 10 to 15 minutes as a favor, a phrase we heard often, even though we’d discussed the timing the night before. His emails were rude or just a “?” in response to our questions, which were about the extra charge. The apartment is 10 minutes from central Tropea, and getting to the nicest beaches can take up to 18 minutes. The website said car rental was available, but we never saw a car. I’d also take off the “open 24/7” label, because it isn’t. I really don’t know where the good reviews came from. I hope you have better luck than we did, and I wish the owner well, hoping this doesn’t happen again.
