Hotel Napoleon

Friendly, refined, and really interesting.

We needed to finish exploring Turin, so we'd come back. The city is well worth a visit, and MAISON NAPOLEON was a good place to sleep at a fair price. The room assigned to us on the first floor was large, looked out over the piazza, and was convenient for the parking offered by the property for an extra charge. The parking is in the square opposite the building, visible from the room windows. The location is very practical, close to the station and well placed for the historic center and beyond. There are restaurants and bars for different budgets nearby, as well as supermarkets for anything we needed. We'd been uncertain about booking at first, partly because of the reviews and photos in other reviews, but decided to give it a chance. Mr. Michele welcomed us with great kindness and professionalism. We have an elderly dog, and he treated him like a person. That helped convince us to book, since this was the only place we found that accepted pets without an extra charge or any fuss. Some people may find the property old-fashioned and not very modern. We travel to see places and don't spend much time in the room, so whether the wardrobe is new or old, or especially well kept, doesn't really matter to us. The beds were clean and comfortable, which is what we need for a night's stay. I don't feel a place should be marked down just because the furniture isn't the best. You can see that Mr. Michele loves his work and cares about welcoming his guests.

The only good things were the friendliness of the person running the place, the location near the station, and the bathroom window. Unfortunately, the room smelled old and musty, and there was dust on the bedside tables and the dresser by the entrance. The chair fabrics were stained, and the old bedspread was torn at the foot of the bed. The walls were so thin that we could hear the neighbors' TV late at night. I paid 94 euros for one night, and they also asked me for 2.80 euros for the tourist tax.

The owner and staff were kind, and the location was convenient, close to the train station and an easy walk from the city center. Those are the reasons I gave it two stars. There was only one electrical outlet between the bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom had no window or fan, and its door was glass. A tram ran along the street right by the stop there, making it practically impossible to sleep.
