Hotel Cristallo

I had a really good stay. The staff were professional, attentive, and helpful.

The hotel's location was the one real positive for me: it's close to both the railway station and the city center. The area seemed a little shady, but I never had any safety problems. I stayed at Cristallo in February last year and was cold at night because there was no proper heating, just the AC. Part of the hotel had been renovated then, but I was given an old, very rundown room. There was housekeeper's hair on every surface. After cleaning it up myself, I put the do-not-disturb sign on the door because I didn't want them coming back in. The breakfast buffet had a limited selection and mediocre quality. Maybe it's different in high season.

We made the booking just half an hour before getting there. The hotel is very central and close to the main station, though it looks a bit worn. The bathroom was clean, but the room felt old and had carpet, which I really dislike. The two guys at reception were very friendly, with that typical Italian warmth. Breakfast was entirely Italian, so don't expect much 😂

It's an easy walk to some bars and restaurants, and the underground parking worked out, though it felt tight with a larger car. The rooms were basic and dated but reasonably clean, and the place has the feel of a budget hotel. Noise was the bigger problem: the walls are thin, the street was loud, and our room seemed quite tired. Breakfast was Italian-style, with little for the rest of the world. I don't generally like sweet food, so I ended up with toast, butter, and coffee.
