The room itself was nice, warm, and okay, but there wasn’t any coffee or food for breakfast. The older man running the B&B was swearing throughout and made fun of my Roman accent. He asked if I was from Burundi and called me a mongoloid, using very harsh and politically incorrect words. He also delayed check-in over a suspected problem with the Booking payment. I gave him all the cash I had, 60 instead of 67, and said the driver would arrive in five minutes with the rest. I explained I was a DJ and had to leave to play, but he didn’t care. When he handed over the keys, he didn’t explain how to get in at night. One of the waitresses eventually came after at least ten minutes and helped me get inside. The promoter had asked him through Booking for a late checkout until 11:30 or 12, which should have cost no more than 8 extra, but he asked me for 20 euros. Booking is talking to him now, and he may have to refund some money, at least 10 euros for the coffee I bought at night, and apologize for his unacceptable behavior.

The rooms are clean and fairly large, and the area is usually very quiet. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the city center and five minutes on foot from the railway station. This works well for a short Udine stay, around 1-3 days. There’s no reception: the B&B is inside a small restaurant called "Osteria Da Lucia", so its day-to-day activity mostly follows the restaurant’s opening hours. Keep that in mind on national holidays and festivities. Breakfast costs an extra 5 EUR per guest each day, with good variety and quality.

Our room was called Ippolito Nievo, apparently named for a 19th-century man. It was very clean and quiet, and the bathroom was clean, spacious, and had everything we needed. The host was very nice, though he spoke only Italian. We’ll come again.

A very central place to stay in the city. You can smell the fish kitchen quite strongly on the floors above, since the rooms are on top of the osteria restaurant.
