The family is what makes this place, from Grandpa Luigi out in the countryside early in the morning, picking fresh fruit for breakfast, to Martina, a university student helping her mom Sabina over the summer and doing her best to make guests feel at home. We had six delightful days. The place is simple, but spotless, and breakfast was generous with fresh pastries every morning. If you’re after splendid normality, this is the spot. If you expect a five-star stay, look elsewhere! Thank you, Sabina.

The garden fruit at breakfast was picked fresh each day, including figs and prickly pears, alongside homemade cakes, biscuits, rusks, and jams. It was fantastic. I stayed for a week in August 2022 with my wife and a couple of friends at B&B La Liccina in Torre Mozza, Ugento. The property is small, with four separate rooms, each with its own bathroom, nestled in the Salento countryside. The nearest beaches, including Maldives of Salento, are a 10-15 minute drive away. Mrs. Sabina runs the place with help from her parents, and all three were friendly, polite, and ready to help with anything. Everything was clean and orderly. I highly recommend it.

Sabina and her family made us feel right at home, and we had such a lovely stay. The welcome here feels unusually warm and familiar, better than anywhere I’ve experienced so far. Breakfast was wonderful, with everything homemade. We’ll definitely come back. A special thank you to her dad Luigi, such a lovely person.

The four-room property is surrounded by olive and fig trees, prickly pears, and vegetable gardens, with a shared kitchen and bathrooms in each room. Just being among all that greenery was a balm for the heart and soul, and a few days there let us forget the stress of our busy lives. I felt part of a family and was thoroughly pampered. Every request was taken care of, and the linens were changed almost daily. Breakfast meant homemade cakes and other products, plus seasonal fruit straight from the garden, a paradise for anyone who loves figs. Sabina, the delightful young owner, was always offering us fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden to take to the beach. Her parents help run the place, and reminded me of my own. My friends and I could talk about the experience for hours, though it might get a bit sappy. The price was excellent, especially in Puglia, where prices seem to keep getting more excessive. As that old TV ad said, “seeing is believing.”

We left the B&B feeling a little sad, after Sabina and her parents made us feel at home with their warm welcome and friendly manner. It’s a peaceful countryside spot, with cicadas in the background, and a great base for the beaches or for visiting Salento’s villages. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes that kind of quiet.
