Castello Valenzino

We arrived to find nobody there and no way to get inside, with no contact details available. A local told us the place was supposed to be closed already and couldn't understand why it was still taking online reservations. We had to book an emergency room at a generic hotel. I've never run into a booking scam like this before, yet it's listed on most third-party booking sites. Do not book here.

You need a car here, since there isn't much within walking distance, but that helped make it such a quiet escape from the bustle. We loved our time at Castello Valenzino, a charming castle with amazing views, spacious rooms and ensuite bathrooms. The garden was a relaxing spot, and the area is nice for walking. There's a nearby wine cellar where you can do tastings. Breakfast was included, and each morning you could choose what to have delivered to your room. The owners were lovely and very friendly, though their English was limited so we couldn't communicate much. Highly recommended!

The staff were pleasant and helpful, and our room was clean and nicely presented. Breakfast came with the stay, with a standard continental selection. The entrance gate was locked and opened with a fob on the room key, so security felt good. The hotel is nicely situated, with a pool, hottub and good views, though the hot tub wasn't working while we were there. Food and drink shops were a 15 min drive away, which wasn't ideal, and traffic noise from the main road was a bit annoying, but not a huge deal.

The bed was super comfortable, and both the room and bathroom were spacious. Everything was clean, peaceful, and beautiful. This was our favourite accommodation on the Italy trip, and we'd happily stay again.
