Hotel Am Wolfsgrubenersee

We’ve stayed here three times already and will be back soon. It’s such a great place for a holiday, with very good rooms and spa, excellent evening meals and local wines, and staff who are always attentive.

We never stayed there and now don’t plan to, after a very unpleasant phone conversation with the hotel. I called twice to ask politely if we could rent ice skates. The first answer was simply no, which was fine. When we called again to ask if they knew somewhere nearby, they answered, but after we asked them to repeat the shop’s name, they just said no and hung up. My daughter speaks German, so she called too, and was extremely upset. Here’s a suggestion for the hotel team: if tourist calls about skates are annoying, perhaps post on Instagram that you don’t rent them and say where people can. It would save your employees time and energy. Maybe they’d even be nicer, who knows.

The accommodation is beautiful, but the food options felt limited. We found the same issue with half-board set menus at hotels in Tyrol. Unfortunately, they said they couldn’t replace the grains on the set Tyrol cuisine menu, such as polenta, pasta, or rice, with extra vegetables.

I asked at the front desk about the spa services, but the person there didn’t know. They asked a colleague, who replied in German and then left the room. It was a very uncomfortable situation.
