Hotel La Diga - Altomincio Family Park

The only real issue was a faint but constant sewer smell from the bathroom toilets. Otherwise, our basic room was comfortable and worked well, with good air conditioning, comfy beds, and decent showers. We had connecting rooms for us and the children, which was very handy. Breakfast had a good range, and the staff were helpful, quick, and hardworking. The bar and restaurant downstairs were nice, though overpriced, like the food outlets across the wider Hu site facilities. The river walk and cycle route right beside the hotel are great.

I arrived after 11 pm and was still greeted very warmly at reception. The room was clean, and breakfast was really good for the price, with plenty to choose from. As a wheelchair user, I appreciated getting the ground-floor room I’d requested, and everything around the hotel was fully accessible. The pools are a little farther away, but transport was provided, and the whole Altomincio village was easy to get around. The pool area has restaurants, activities, and a bar for spending the day, plus there’s a nice promenade and bike path near the hotel. Especially for the price, I’d highly recommend it.

The staff were very nice, and the hotel is close to beautiful Borghetto and other lovely places. We avoided spending time at the hotel as much as we could, though, because you get what you pay for in the room. Ours didn’t look like the picture, and the small high windows made it feel like being shut in. It had air conditioning and private parking, but showering was a nightmare: water went everywhere and almost dripped into the room. We skipped breakfast because the scrambled eggs were “so yellow” and the other choices were carbs. The bar is nice, with drinks and pastries that looked good, though I didn’t try them. Having an ATM at the hotel was a nice touch.

We were pleasantly surprised by breakfast. Although it was advertised as just a small Italian breakfast of croissant, coffee, and juice, each morning there was a buffet with croissants, butter and jam, boiled eggs, fried bacon, salami, cheese and ham, rolls, toast and a toaster, fruit yogurt, butter, Nutella, honey, several jams, and cereal. There were two professional coffee machines and three kinds of juice. For fresh milk with the cereal, though, you had to ask at the bar, as it wasn’t provided in the buffet room. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms and facilities were clean and well maintained. The family park has pools, bars, and kids’ entertainment. In our opinion, avoid the park restaurant at froggy square; the adjoining Seiterre Birreria and Risotteria more than makes up for it, with very tasty food and drinks at a great price.
