The room, bathroom, and corridors were spotless, and I loved the view from the room. The whole building was well heated, which was a real treat in mid-November, when nights fell to around 10 degrees Celsius. This cozy, welcoming hostel in a historic building has lovely medieval character and sits centrally in the charming town of Valfabbrica. I don't think you'd find more central budget accommodation there. Staff were friendly and helpful, and I got everything I paid for, so it was a restful, enjoyable stay. My only small service gripe was that I couldn't find anyone to ask for morning coffee. My booking didn't include breakfast, and it may not be offered off season, but there was a bar just around the corner, so a short walk sorted out my caffeine. I'd happily return if my travels bring me this way again. Grazie mille, dear people of Locanda Francescana.

Since the change of ownership, this has become a purely commercial hostel as of Easter 2025, with no shared pilgrim activities. The rooms are mediocre, and breakfast was poor, just dry biscuits and cake. Staff were unfriendly and the service was bad. Apparently, card payment wasn't possible, and after paying cash we weren't given a receipt. They promised one, but still didn't hand it over the next day. Another pilgrim was asked to pay a second time and managed to refuse. We also weren't told that booking without dinner was an option. The staff need some training.

Manuela and Lorenzo, who work there, are wonderful people. I had a fabulous stay at Locanda, with nice, clean rooms and delicious dinner and breakfast. The location and price couldn't be better. I'll keep coming back.

A very simple place to stay, but it feels homey, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The town is tiny and charming, with everything within walking distance.
