Valmontone Travel House

After the long drive from Northern Italy ( Asti), it was a lovely surprise to be welcomed by Stephano, one of the owners, and shown to our rooms. They were very clean, modern, and updated, and the grounds around the Travel House were attractive and well cared for. They offered supper options and advice for continuing south or visiting Rome, and asked what time we'd like breakfast. The pool beside the property was spotless and well maintained, with plenty of space for sunbathing and sitting by the water. We enjoyed it so much that we booked again for our return three weeks later. It made a perfect stopover, with a quick drive to Rome airport to return our vehicles and fly home. If you're staying in the Rome area, this place is a must. You'll be happy with your stay.

The view was amazing, and I loved the pop art. The shower was nice, breakfast was free and really good, and the price was reasonable. The owner was friendly and drove me to the train station twice, though it's also walkable from there. I get the impression plenty of guests come back a few times a year to get away from Rome. There's an interesting palace, church, and library within walking distance, and the train ride is gorgeous. I also met an American who'd bought a fixer-upper near Valmontone for 8,000. If you're walking at night, bring a flashlight because it can get dark without a moon. Go shopping before the stores close, since everything in Europe shuts early. I'd definitely come back. The food was great, but the service was poor.

The streets are narrow, but the owners are warm and friendly, and the rooms are clean and modern.
