Casa Villa Gardenia

The rooms were clean and affordable, breakfast was included, and the location near Venice Mestre was convenient. What made the stay special, though, was the owner, a Taiwanese woman whose warmth and enthusiasm for Italian history and culture were infectious. Rain kept us inside over breakfast, and we ended up having one of the most memorable conversations of our trip. She talked about Italy's artistic heritage, the tension between preserving it and letting it age, and how Italians' awareness of their surroundings has changed. Her knowledge and genuine passion were a reminder of why we travel: beyond checking off sights, there are human connections you can't find in a guidebook. I'd recommend this place to anyone planning their own trip who wants an authentic experience, not just a transaction.

There are only six rooms, which made this little hotel feel cozy and welcoming. Ours was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was fresh and tasty. The owner was so kind that he let us leave our car on the large property parking area while we spent another day exploring Venice. We'd happily come back.

We chose the blue room at Casa Villa Gardenia, and the staff were happy to arrange it. The six rooms are all old-fashioned in style and furnished differently. Ours was spotless and just the right size for two. September was still warm, so the air conditioning was much appreciated. Breakfast each morning was hearty, with a nice spread of breads, pastries, cereals and salads. The location made trips into Venice easy: the bus stop across the way, served by buses #6 and 6L, had frequent departures, and Venezia Mestre station was a two to three-minute walk away. The ride to Venice took about 15 minutes. We picked this quaint B&B to avoid hauling luggage over Venice's many bridges or carrying it onto water taxis and vaporettos, though it does mean missing the city's romantic atmosphere. We had a pleasant stay and would recommend it for a short Venice visit. There are a couple of things that could be better: toothbrushes for guests who need them would be helpful, and the garden, which gives the villa its name, needs more care and upkeep.

The location was a big help, close to the station with easy access to buses and trains for the places we wanted to visit. Our room at Casa Villa Gardenia was spotless and comfortable. We felt a little cold despite the A/C, so Federico promptly brought us a high-quality heater that kept us cozy. Breakfast was worth including in the stay: it was reasonably priced and had a great selection. Federico was a wonderful host, friendly, helpful, and fluent in English, and he went out of his way to welcome us and explain what we needed for our trip. For a clean hotel in a handy spot with such attentive service, I'd highly recommend it. Thanks again, Federico!
