Courtyard by Marriott Venice Airport

My stay was pleasant in general, but I’m really upset about what happened with the airport shuttle. I know it’s run independently, and I’d read Google reviews about the high prices, but I was charged €30 for a trip just around the corner to the airport. I’d planned to walk, but when my friend dropped me off, we realized my heavy bag would make that hard because the sidewalk doesn’t run all the way to the hotel. At check-in I asked what the shuttle might cost. The front desk was vague, never gave me even a price range, quickly changed the subject, and still insisted I take it. I expected €15-20, not €30. I suspect, though I have no evidence, that the front desk knows about or coordinates with the shuttle operator. The driver didn’t even offer to help with my heavy bag. I won’t complain directly to the shuttle company because I’ve had poor experiences with Italian customer service and bureaucracy before, but I don’t appreciate feeling ripped off with a Marriott property’s blessing. I saw a hotel van and wondered why the hotel no longer offers a service. I’m sure Marriott pays for that van whether it gets used or not. The restaurant was a separate issue. The servers were very nice, but I was charged incorrectly for one item. I only noticed when I checked the receipt after leaving, so that part’s on me. The difference was small, but it’s the principle. I was told the restaurant is also an independent contractor, so there may be no feedback or recourse through this site. I hope this reaches employees who can make changes and correct things. Update: I had a positive exchange with the hotel management, and I’m glad to hear they’ll address the shuttle issue appropriately going forward. I’d consider staying here again on a future trip to this beautiful region.

For a Courtyard-level Marriott, this is great, about 4.5 stars. The staff are friendly and helpful in the Marriott way, and there’s a nice restaurant close by. It may be the best hotel near Venice airport. The airport shuttle fee is steep. You can walk to the airport at your own risk, but the first 80 metres have no sidewalk. A courtesy shuttle once or twice an hour would make the stay a five-star experience.

The rooms and location were great, but the service was a problem. As Marriott Silver members, service matters to us. First they wouldn’t give us a second key. Then the room was cold because reception had turned off the heating. They switched it back on when I asked, but the room thermostat, which had worked when we checked in, was disabled that evening. Around 2 a.m. we woke up cold again because they’d turned the heating off once more. There wasn’t an extra blanket in the closet. I called, and they turned the heat back on. We didn’t sleep well.

This is really only suitable for air passengers who want to stay close to the airport. The rooms are clean and okay, but breakfast has a pretty limited selection for a Marriott. The front desk charged my card €25 for possible extras. My minibar was empty, so I don’t know what the charge was for. The money wasn’t back in my account the next day, and still isn’t. When I called, the hotel said refunds take five working days. Nobody had told me about this policy beforehand, and I told them it was my money and they should have explained it in advance. Definitely not coming back.
