Hotel Garibaldi

Our room was dark and had no air conditioning. When we went to breakfast before the 11:00 checkout and returned at 10:50, our door was open with all our luggage still inside. That felt strange. I also wasn't comfortable having to leave our car keys at reception so they could move the car if needed. Ours was in a corner and wasn't blocking anyone, but it was still moved very close to a tree. On the helpful side, the hotel was very clean, staff were friendly, and we got fresh towels each day. The bus stop is right outside, and Venice is 20 minutes away. You can buy bus and vaporetto tickets at reception.

We found Hotel Garibaldi comfortable, relaxed and good value during our short two-night stay. It was easy to buy bus and tram tickets at reception, and we made good use of the nearby restaurants, especially Meatre. The continental buffet breakfast, served by the owner and staff, was very good and plentiful. There's a small car park, though we didn't use it because our late arrival meant we couldn't collect our hire car. Our room was a good-sized double with a small en-suite, wardrobe and safe, a large chest of drawers and two bedside tables. The view was just an alley and neighboring properties, but that was fine since we only used the room to sleep. The family-run hotel is close to the old town centre of Mestre, with bars, cafes, shops and restaurants a short walk away. Bus and tram services are nearby, and the main Mestre-Venice train and coach station is about 25 minutes away, including a 10-minute walk to the bus station. We arrived shortly before midnight after a terrible flight from London Luton to Venice Treviso, delayed by over six hours and then diverted to Venice Marco Polo. It was a Ryanair flight, never again, but that's another story. Having a staffed reception for check-in was a relief. The evening receptionist was helpful and started to take the edge off the stressful day, particularly with a beer and a gin and tonic. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We were able to check in early, and our spacious rooms were ready for us. Breakfast was lovely, and they could seat our party of 13 together. The hosts were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The decor is dated, but this is a lovely little family-run hotel. We stayed for a weekend in Venice after a Mediterranean cruise and would come back. The only downside was no air conditioning. What we thought was air con turned out to be heating, and we had a very sweaty night.

The Number 2 bus stops right outside and gets you into Venice in 20 minutes, so this was a great deal compared with staying in Venice itself. The beds were super comfy, the rooms clean, and the staff friendly. We were pleasantly surprised.
