This place is a handy base for visiting Venice without paying island hotel prices. A bus stop right across the street gets you to the heart of Venice in about 20 minutes, and central Mestre has plenty of shops, restaurants, shopping centers, and supermarkets nearby. The receptionist isn’t always at the desk, but he’s friendly and very helpful. He arranged a ride back to Marco Polo airport in a nice car with an equally nice driver. The old building is maintained well and clean, though the online photos don’t really show what the rooms are like. The kitchen area has a fair amount of equipment. The bathroom is small, the windows don’t insulate very well, and there were mosquitoes, so bringing repellent is probably a good idea. That last part wasn’t a deal breaker, just something to keep in mind.

I’d book this place again if I needed somewhere to stay in Mestre. The top-floor room was nice, with WiFi, a small kitchen, a washing machine, and lots of wardrobe space. Two small drawbacks: reception isn’t staffed from 12:30 to 15:00, so an early check-in means calling and waiting. Also, a nearby bar with a terrace played music until the early hours. The room wasn’t completely quiet, but earplugs did the job.
