La Casa Del Colonnello

The owner was kind, but the price felt too high for the service and location, especially with the heat and the useless fan. We stayed one night at the Colonel's House in Vercelli on July 18th, and it was a disastrous experience. The basement apartment was scorchingly hot, with no air conditioning and only a fan in the bedroom that barely helped. It also wasn’t very clean. Both ends of the alley had piles of old furniture and other debris. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The owner was extremely kind, friendly, and helpful. The apartment is right near downtown, warm, clean, tidy, and well-equipped. The stairs are a little awkward and parking is tricky, but that’s normal when you’re this close to the city center.

We barely slept. The mattress was mediocre, and the synthetic sheets made us sweat. The bedroom had no window, just a door to a backyard that we didn’t feel comfortable leaving open overnight. Although the apartment is near the center, it sits at the end of a dirty dead-end street, number 13. Inside it was dark and noisy, with upstairs neighbors arriving late and sounding as though they were coming into our room. Ventilation seemed difficult, and a programmed toilet freshener sprayed from the kitchen. For us, it was very poor value. We’re ready to forget this bad night.

The room had all the amenities we needed, and the owners’ care shows in how clean and well-kept everything is. It’s a welcoming, elegant place in Vercelli’s historic center, with a particularly picturesque feel. Parking is difficult, and the steep, very narrow stairs make access hard for people with disabilities. Architectural restrictions apparently prevent changes to improve that.
