Albergo Martinet

Such a warm host, and the whole stay felt easy and stress-free.

The staff really put their hearts into making our stay memorable. We loved the beautiful property, the welcoming family, and the fairytale village. Thanks for all the memories, we already want to come back.

I’m writing about the restaurant. We arrived at lunchtime without knowing the place, so I hadn’t booked. It looked lovely when I went in, and I asked the first person who greeted me whether they could fit two adults and our two little children. A waiter and a woman said there were no tables, even though I could see three empty ones. I explained that the kids were hungry and asked if we could just have a plate and leave, but he told me he didn’t care who I was with because those tables were reserved. To me, that restaurant showed the same lack of humanity and humility I’ve seen in most shopkeepers in winter.

We’ll come back to Albergo Martinet in spring or summer. Marco and his wife, Fiore, made us feel at home on our first visit, and they welcomed our poodle too. Our room was warm, spotless, wood-finished, and looked out on the Vernante church. The small dining room felt cozy with its wood-burning fireplace. Marco cooked the meals and knew the area inside out, always happy to answer our questions. Breakfast and dinner weren’t huge, but we enjoyed the food, especially Marco’s exquisite Fassona steak. On New Year’s Eve, dinner was the usual fare, then Marco opened panettone and sparkling wine at midnight and toasted with everyone. The hotel is right in the village, close to the pharmacy, grocery store, tourist office, bars, and clubs. We stayed from December 30 to January 3, and the hospitality made it a very satisfying visit for us two adults and our dog. One small suggestion: the spring mattresses could be more comfortable.
