Domus Nova Italian Homing

Domus has a view that’s hard to beat, and the location is wonderful. The guesthouse is in a gorgeous palazzo, with windows from the common room and the lovely Giulietta room looking onto Piazza dei Signori. Piazza Erbe is just 10 metres behind it, and there are plenty of places nearby to stop for a drink and listen to music. I stayed in the huge Donna room, by Verona standards. I believe it had a balcony overlooking the rooftops and the arch leading into Piazza Erbe. The air conditioning was quiet and worked well, and Marco was excellent and helpful. The decor might not be Westin or Four Seasons style, but the comfort and view are great for the price.

Giovanni was often in the salon beside the piazza in the morning, along with Nadia, who served breakfast at the time we chose. He also offered useful advice on historic places to see and towns we could visit by train for the day. He told us Domus Nova’s furnishings and colours were inspired by medieval tastes, and the result felt calm and harmonious. We stayed four nights in June 2018. Our Regina Adelaide suite had a hall, a large bathroom and a well-equipped bedroom and sitting room, with long windows onto the square. The bed was comfortable, and both the Wi-Fi and air conditioning worked well. The B&B is on the third floor of an old palazzo overlooking Verona’s main square, Piazza dei Signori. The family has lived in the building for about 200 years, and several relatives have apartments there. We found it through the Sawdays website.

As a guest, I felt uncomfortable and unsupported. When I reported that the internet wasn’t working properly, I felt my concern was ignored and I wasn’t believed. Communication became difficult, and I was told I wouldn’t get further help unless I communicated in the establishment’s language, even though I was willing to translate the messages myself. Based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend this place to Brazilian travelers.

The owner was extremely helpful, and the location made it easy to explore all of Verona’s center. The room was lovely, clean and tidy, with everything we needed. We also really appreciated the self-serve coffee corner. We’ll definitely come back next time!
