Palazzo Maffei

The rooftop terrace overlooking Piazza Delle Erbe is where the museum route ends, and there's a varied, interesting selection of art throughout. It's a lovely mix of classical and modern, with works including pieces by Picasso and the famous Great Wave off Kanagawa by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. The museum isn't huge, so a visit takes an hour or two, depending on how long you like to look at the art. It's open daily 10:00-18:00, with last admission at 17:10, and closed Tuesdays. Adult tickets are €15, or €9 with the Verona card. Access just to the rooftop terrace costs €5.50. Great museum, not to be missed.

Casa Maffei was a lovely surprise in Verona's historic center. The museum is peaceful and wasn't crowded at all, a nice stop if you're after something beyond the main tourist sites. The architecture is stunning, and the collection brings classical and modern art together in a way that gives you a sense of how layered Verona's history is. The rooftop terrace has a beautiful view over the piazza, too. Highly recommend it for some art and elegance in a quieter setting. For a few extra euros, get the audio tour on your phone!
