Chalet Madonna di Viggiano

Leonardo and Massimo were wonderfully kind, and the value was excellent. The chalet had been closed for a long time, but Leonardo, a breeder, and Massimo, the chef, have thankfully brought it back. Set among the woods on the mountain path to the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Viggiano, the property offers overnight stays and meals. It's a lovely place for a weekend immersed in the mountains and nature, and the landscape is special. I recommend a visit for the scenery as well as the spiritual inspiration. The comfortable, clean rooms all have en-suite bathrooms. The restaurant occupies several levels, and Massimo served us delicious food. We chose beef tagliata and fish dishes, including excellent cod stew with potatoes. Both meat and fish are available. Breakfast is mainly savory, with boiled or scrambled eggs, ham, cheese, and more, though sweet options are available too. There's plenty of parking, and the crisp air at sunrise and sunset is a delight.

The setting is nice, though the rooms are a little small. The food was average, and breakfast was average too, definitely not international.

The food was good, and you can order lunch or dinner from the menu except on weekends. Breakfast was a good Italian one. The location is excellent for the slopes, just a few minutes' walk away. But the cleanliness needs work: our room had been cleaned poorly and only on the surface, with old stains on the duvets, bathroom tiles, and doors. We arrived late in the afternoon to a very cold room, likely because the heat had been turned on late. It didn't warm up properly until the next day. There's no hairdryer in the bathroom. The relaxation room has tables and a children's play area, but that was cold too until we asked for the heating to be turned on. We also couldn't use it the following evening, apparently because another guest had caused some minor damage that affected everyone.
