The staff were so kind, and the place was very clean. We had a wonderful time in Volterra, helped by the excellent breakfast and the hotel’s spot right in the heart of the city. We’d absolutely recommend it.

When we’re in Tuscany, my wife and I tend to spend one night at this charming, well-placed hotel. It’s a handy spot for taking our time in Volterra and going out to dinner in the evening. The staff are helpful and friendly, and the continental and Italian breakfasts were both satisfying. The hotel can also reserve a table for you at Ristaurante Etruria, which is well worth doing.

La Locanda made me feel at home, with warm service and cozy, beautiful rooms. It’s a small hotel in a great location, and being connected to Ristorante Etruria means good food is right nearby. I had a perfect stay and would happily recommend it.

Parking was the awkward part, as it can be in Tuscan hill towns. I left the car in the free area used by camper vans, then took a driver arranged by the hotel back to collect our bags. That cost 25 Euros, about what a paid lot would have cost if I’d found a space. Follow the hotel’s directions and advice. Inside, it’s a delightful old-style place with a roomy bedroom, a very large bathroom by Italian standards, and a comfortable bed and linens. WiFi worked well, and the continental breakfast was very nice. Anglo-Saxons should know cooked items cost extra. I’d recommend staying here.

The hotel is just inside the walls, a convenient spot for exploring Volterra. Our room was spacious, quiet, and clean, and there’s handy parking close by.
