Olive Tree Hill

A quiet little retreat near the train to Roma, with flowers, fruit trees, and olive trees all around the property. Ivano cooks wonderfully and serves meals with such warmth. We felt at home with this lovely family, almost as if we’d come back to our own place. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for a peaceful break. We hope to return, like so many of the other guests who talked about coming back while we were there.

We spent a couple of days taking the train into Rome, but our favorite outings were closer to home, around Zagarolo and Palestrinia. It’s a quiet, friendly rural place where we could relax and unwind, and the family atmosphere came with amazing food. The hosts went far beyond being super-hosts. They were amazing-hosts.

Olive Tree Hill was a great find away from the usual route. We stayed with our family while touring Rome, and Ivano helped us with tickets and walked us to the train. Getting into the city was easy and cheap. The rooms were simple, clean, and comfortable, with everything you need at a more than fair price. Ivano and Tehri are wonderful hosts. After over a month traveling around Italy, we had the best dinner of our trip here. They were glad to help with our tour plans and even showed us around the local area.

We’ve updated our earlier review after taking a fantastic guided trip with Ivano this past June. We traveled through the Calabria region and up to Paestum, then finished at their lovely bed and breakfast in Zagarolo. Ivano helped us shape the itinerary around the extensive Greek history of Italy’s settlement. Highlights included the famous bronze statues in Reggio Calabria, the charming little town of Bova, Cirò Marina’s seaside and a beautiful vineyard and winery tour, and the huge temple ruins at Paestum, which rival the Acropolis and Roman Forum. Ivano was patient, a great driver, and fun to spend time with. We travel quite a bit and I enjoy planning trips, but we never would have found some of those places ourselves. Olive Tree Hill is a quiet countryside bed and breakfast just outside Rome, close to the train station and about 30 minutes from Rome’s Termini station. It’s family run, and we couldn’t be happier with it. Ivano and Terhi can drop you at the station, so you don’t need to rent a car. The rooms and beds are clean and very comfortable, and there’s a small pool for cooling off on hot days. Breakfast is generous and delicious, served whenever you need it to fit your plans. We like to get back in time for dinner and Ivano’s wonderful Italian cooking, though dinner is optional. We love the quiet countryside outside the city, and this place is ideal for that.
