I first went there February 8-10, 2013, after a snowstorm in Canada caused my flight to be cancelled. The service was very good. My favourite part is the Green Market, especially how they brought in food from North America.

We paid $3,129 to join Wyndham’s two-year trial program. Benny Yanty told us we’d have 20,000 points to use for vacations during that period, then we could decide whether to extend. We kept our payments up to date. Benny also said there’d be no interest and the remaining amount would be final. A few months after we signed up, my wife, Kristan, got cancer, and we cancelled a Disney vacation about a month ahead, telling them why. Cancelling itself wasn’t a problem. She completed chemotherapy and a double mastectomy, thankfully, but they found more of the tumor in the tissue, so she had six more months of chemotherapy pills. She then had expanders put in for reconstruction surgery, and we were nearing the end of the two-year trial. When we called to book a vacation, we were told our points were gone, though we still had to pay the remaining balance. The representative said interest had been added but couldn’t explain why. That annoyed me, but losing the points was worse. Morgan from Owner Resolution said the points had been taken away because we hadn’t used them in the first year. Then he said that if we bought the full package, they’d see what they could do about restoring those points. When my wife tried to explain what had happened, he got short with her and said there was nothing he’d do unless we bought something. She asked for a supervisor, and he replied, “This will not be going above me!” After more of that attitude, she hung up. That’s where things stand. I’m still trying to reach a supervisor, but it seems members are told not to let anyone speak with one, and to keep trying to sell more. Before doing business with this company, consider whether you want to be treated this way after they already have your money. Is a company that tells a cancer survivor, “Oh well, that’s not our problem,” one you want to deal with? We’ve read the contract and can’t find the clause they’re relying on. They told us one thing to get us to sign, then pulled this stunt.

The cafe is best avoided, though its pastries are really good, lol. There’s also a full-service gym, handy for burning off all that Jamaican goodness we love to enjoy. I just finished a stay here and was very satisfied with the service. The staff were so welcoming, always smiling and friendly. I’d definitely stay here again.

It’s well placed in the New Kingston business hub, which is a plus for business travelers. The facilities are excellent for conferences and seminars. The food’s not bad either.

The Hendrickson family now owns the property, and it’s set to join their Kingston hotel portfolio with The Jamaica Pegasus, The Courtleigh Suites, and Knutsford Court Hotel. It used to be known as the Wyndham Hotel and was The Jamaica Pegasus’s main competitor as Kingston, Jamaica’s primary business hotel. It’s currently under construction and wasn’t expected to open until 2019 or later. I’m looking forward to seeing the renovations and what comes with the new venture once it opens.
