Negril Palms

We've stayed in a lot of places in Negril and have never been so ready to leave. The other guests, eight or nine older people from the southern US, were loud and obnoxious at night and woke us repeatedly. They showed no respect for others, and at other hotels security would have stopped it. I'm not even sure this place has security beyond a guy at the gate. We didn't arrive with high expectations because we knew it wasn't an expensive place, but it was worse than expected. Our room wasn't ready until 6:30 pm, despite a 3 pm check-in. There was only a quarter roll of toilet paper and the bathroom lights didn't work because the bulbs were blown. Hungry for dinner, we went to the restaurant and waited an hour and 45 minutes for a chicken wrap with sausage and no chicken. The room was just okay at best, not very clean, with a closet mirror that didn't look recently cleaned. The safe didn't work. The beds were old and had no fitted sheet, so if you move around you may end up on the mattress by morning. There was no blanket, just a flat sheet to lie on and one to cover up with. On the beach, expect to be hassled a lot by every “salesman” walking by.

Being right on seven mile beach was lovely, and every room has a leafy tropical balcony or patio. Beyond that, I can't say much good. Our section of the small hotel was under construction, with hallway doors and windows missing and the finish incomplete. The place has taken a beating since the photos online, especially the front and lobby. Staff weren't helpful, and trying to order at the bar or get food made me feel like I was imposing. The bar had very limited supplies. It was noisy during sleeping hours, and I wouldn't stay here again.

A nice little hidden gem right on the beach. The rooms are small, but the beds are comfortable. Staff were really helpful, and the restaurant was excellent. I'd recommend it if you're after a budget-friendly beachfront stay.

I stopped in for a drink during a day at 7 mile beach and paid 1,800 Jamaican dollars for a Red Stripe and a water after they said there was no Fanta. Either it was very expensive or I got ripped off. I handed over €5,000 and waited for my change. She said she'd sort it out in a minute and asked if I was in a rush. Five minutes before we were leaving, we asked again. She asked if we wanted another drink, and got a bit aggressive when we said no, as if we would order more. Then she spent another ten minutes looking for change. Never again.
