The SOV Resorts

I’d call it more like a 2.5, but that rating wasn’t available. The property has potential and is nice, though it seems cheaply maintained. It’s okay for sleeping and hanging out with friends, but don’t count on getting the “complimentary” breakfast every morning. When it does come, it’s usually closer to lunchtime. They badly need more staff, and better training for the few who are there.

The staff were warm and pleasant, and service was good. We could arrange tours and taxis at the front desk. The included continental breakfast was scrumptious, though the chef told us they had run out of fruit that weekend. The West End resort has ocean access over a cliff, with a ladder to climb back out, and the sunset is beautiful from there or from your balcony, depending on your room. The grounds were tidy, with manicured gardens, an outdoor seating area, a bar and food area, and an infinity pool with another bar, though the pool needed some cleaning and maintenance. My room was basic but adequate and very clean, with AC, cable TV, and hot and cold water. The bed was on wheels and tended to roll if you leaned against it. The tinted balcony door let guests see outside without people seeing in. The outside AC units were above the balcony and seemed to leak a noticeable amount of water onto it.

The comfortable room had a large television, which was the best part for me. It’s a peaceful place, and the huge pool had room for several groups. The restaurant and bar are finally open, with good drinks and great food.

The view was unreal, and the wedding I attended here left me with lasting memories. It was one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen a wedding take place, and worth enduring the heat that day. The service workers could have been a little better, but there’s a cultural difference, and none of us are perfect.
