We’ll still come back to Jamaica, but not to the Whistling Bird unless ownership changes, bookings are handled properly, and the place improves. The other owners were great, checked that guests were happy, got to know people, and wanted the stay to be better. The staff were amazing and funny. Our first visit, two years ago, was seven days and a great time. We came back for two weeks, and the changes in just a year were shocking. Too many people take reservations, and there’s no booking app to track who booked what or which room. We reserved John Chewit, were told we’d be in the upper level of the new cabin built last year, then told a water issue meant we couldn’t stay there. We later found out it had been reserved for someone else. They put us in Sparrow, a room about the size of a shoe closet that should only be used by one person. We didn’t complain because it was clear the owner, Calvin, didn’t care. Wi-Fi only worked at the beach. There were several other networks, but all were password protected and guests weren’t given the passwords. Prices are tiered based on how many years you’ve stayed at the cottages, from $120-150 US, rather than the size of your room. Food was cheaper elsewhere, and paying in Jamaican currency worked out better than paying in US.

This was our second year in a row, and we’re very happy with the stay. The property was safe, clean, and well managed, and every restaurant meal was fantastic. The staff were lovely, engaging, accommodating, and professional. We’ve stayed at many places over the decades, so we know what to expect, and we’d recommend it. The property came through the hurricane quite well, with plenty of shade on the beach. It was quiet and peaceful apart from one night when the music, if you can call it that, from The Jungle nightclub was loud and went late. The beach location is great for walking to bars with good music and fun.

We used Whistling bird as our base for exploring Negril, and it was a great fit. The stretch of beach is amazing, the food is incredible, and the whole place has a lovely vibe. The owner and staff made us feel right at home. We’ll definitely be back.

We tried Whistling Bird’s Happy Hour twice, and both visits were amazing. The $3 specials were delicious, and the Rum Punch and Duurti Melissa cocktails were great. We also had Jerk Wings, a Grilled Fish Sandwich, and Beef Sliders. Good drinks, food, and a cool vibe.

The beach was amazing, and the food was just as good. Our room was nice, the bed super comfortable, and the staff absolutely incredible. We had a fabulous stay!
