Mystic Ridge Apt 26F

The buildings look nice, but my stay was the worst. I had no room service and only one towel for three days, with no clean towels provided. I had to take out the garbage myself. The woman who checked me in wouldn’t answer when I called, but after I left she called to ask about her dirty black pot. I hadn’t used it and had put it in the bottom cupboard, out of sight. She quoted one price on the phone, then added $20,000 when I arrived and said I had to pay cash because they don’t take cards. What hotel doesn’t use cards these days? Then I had to go back down to the gate to pay the security guard, an older man, instead of paying at a front desk. I think she’s a scammer. I wouldn’t recommend anyone stay there.

The rooms were fairly nice, with good A/C and a pleasant view over the city. The pool was nice too, with a small snack stand that was the only food available at the resort. The restaurant was shut down and looked rough, with part of it caving in. There are locals living at the hotel because, I think, they can’t sell enough rooms. It’s okay if you don’t mind being far from the beach, but I wouldn’t recommend it or stay there again.

The property is clean and the grounds are well maintained, but the buildings could use some TLC or a fresh coat of paint. The location works well if you have business in Ocho Rios town or nearby.

The staff were kind, polite, and responsive during my seven-night stay with my three school-aged children and toddler. The landscaping is beautiful, and the wings at the bar were phenomenal. It looks like the property is being renovated, and I hope that brings Mystic Ridge more guests and prosperity. A few things kept it from being five stars for me: the WiFi was spotty, the bar and restaurant weren’t consistently open, and I wish there had been more hot water. I had to run the bath for an hour to get enough water for the kids. I also think charging guests for stains on sheets or washcloths is in bad taste; that’s normal wear and tear and should be an operating cost. And having to return the room keys, laminate info, and remotes to the desk at checkout feels unnecessary when most hotels let you leave them in the room.
