Opal Hotel Amman

Sound travels everywhere in this hotel. I could clearly hear conversations, doors, footsteps, and the TV from neighboring rooms and the corridor because there’s no soundproofing. The no alcohol policy is stricter than it might sound. Alcohol isn’t available there, and you can’t bring your own either. They scan all bags at the entrance.

Breakfast had plenty of local dishes and was served from 6pm. The hotel is very large, has easy parking, and is super close to the airport, making it a good value option nearby. Because of our flight times, we checked in in the middle of the night. The staff at Opal Hotel were accommodating and let us check out late, at 2pm, since we hadn’t spent much time in the room. A must visit if you need good value near the airport.

The one good thing was breakfast. Still, breakfast at other places in the Middle East is good too, so for a 5 star hotel this was ridiculous. Amman deserves a decent airport hotel, and this one rates three stars at most. It’s 25 min from the airport. At first glance, it seemed like the best hotel around, so we booked a night, but it disappointed us. The floor smelled of smoke, which gradually reached our room. Smoking and non-smoking rooms are mixed together, something I’ve never seen elsewhere. We switched rooms and the next one was better, though still far from good. We also met another couple who had to move twice before they got an acceptable room. The rooms are worn and shabby, the blanket was dirty, and the staff barely speak english. At breakfast they serve coffee and tee from a thermos, and espresso costs extra.

Omar Alhasan looked after me at the front desk and was really helpful, with warm hospitality. I had a great five days at Opal Amman hotel. The room was spacious, and the view from the window was scenic. I highly recommend it to people visiting Amman.
