Family Lodge Hatagoya Hikone

We spent two nights and three days in a non-smoking room at the far end of the second floor, and it was fairly peaceful despite all the traffic, including trucks, on the main road along eastern Lake Biwa. The spot is convenient for driving to nearby places, with convenience stores and restaurants within five minutes. Hikone Castle is about a 30-minute drive away, and we enjoyed sightseeing by the lake, including a visit to Chikubushima Island from Hikone Port.

We haven't had any issues with the rooms or service, and we always appreciate how welcoming they are, especially toward dogs. The location does seem awkward if you're hoping to walk your dog nearby.

The room was spacious and comfortable, and the large parking lot was easy to use. There's even a gas station next door. Most guests probably come by car, so the lack of restaurants and other amenities within walking distance may not be a big issue, but there aren't many nearby on foot. Breakfast starts at 7 AM: pick up bread at the front desk and eat it in your room. The croissants are especially good. Coffee machines and the other amenities are available from check-in.

I'd stayed at another inn before and found it convenient, so I tried the Hikone one too. It's spacious and you can use it freely, with shops nearby, which is handy. There's also easy parking on site.
